Loan FAQ: your questions, answered.

Our loan FAQ has quick answers about applying, costs, credit checks and your privacy.

Applying

Fill in the form on our apply page. Choose an amount, then tell us about yourself, your income and your bank account.

Most lenders ask that you are the age of majority in your province (18 or 19), live in Canada, have a regular income and an active Canadian bank account.

The form takes a few minutes. How fast you hear back depends on the lender.

Yes. The site and the form work on phones, tablets and computers.

No. The lender reviews your request and decides. Be careful with anyone who promises approval before you apply.

Costs and fees

No. Applying and reviewing offers is free. If you accept a loan, you pay the lender the costs in your agreement.

Federal rules cap payday loans at $14 for every $100 borrowed. On $500, the most a lender can charge is $70. Some provinces set lower limits.

35% APR, the federal criminal interest rate since January 1, 2025. It includes most fees.

A legitimate lender should not ask you to pay a fee before you receive a loan. If someone does, stop and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

In the lender’s loan agreement. It shows the amount, the total cost, the APR and the due dates. Read it before you sign.

Credit checks

Sending your request through Fast Easy does not affect your score. A lender may check your credit before making an offer.

Yes. Many lenders look at your income and ability to repay, not only your score. Approval is not guaranteed.

Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada both let you see your credit report for free.

If the lender reports to the credit bureaus, on-time payments can help. Missed payments can hurt your score.

Getting paid and repaying

The lender sends it, usually by Interac e-Transfer or direct deposit, once you are approved and sign.

Some lenders fund the same day or the next business day. Timing depends on the lender and your bank.

Your lender, on the dates in your agreement. Fast Easy does not collect payments.

Contact your lender before the due date and ask about options. A non-profit credit counsellor can also help, often for free.
